Iconic PS titles that demand Xperia Play attention
The Sony Ericsson Xperia Play has been in our smartphone lives for just a brief time, promising to deliver a true mobile gaming experience with the odd text message, tweet and phone call thrown in for good measure.
With 60 games available at launch, we were suprised to hear that just six titles would come from the original PlayStation back catalogue. The good news is that E3 2011 will see the launch of new Xperia Play games.
Yanking mobile gamers away from their iPhones and Android handsets could prove a tall order for Sony Ericsson, but if they are going to make the PSP/phone mash-up a homage to PS One gaming, we've selected five games from the original PlayStation console that we think will instantly make the Xperia Play more desirable.
See below for PlayStation One games we want on the Xperia Play
1/Resident Evil 2 (1998)
Who says sequels are always a disappointment? RE2 went against the gaming grain by delivering possibly the best game in the series. Graphically RE2 came on leaps and bounds from the original, and with the overall depth of the gameplay enhanced, it is one game that we'd love to see get the Xperia Play treatment.
2/Metal Gear Solid (1998)
Remember Psycho Mantis reading your memory card? Hiding inside cardboard boxes to avoid being spotted by the guards? Solid Snake's first outing was iconic for the PlayStation One for so many reasons. We'd even make time for those long cinematic-style cut scenes...
3/Parappa the Rapper(1998)
"Kick, punch, it's all in the mind." If not just to have the opportunity hear the magnificent Chop Chop Master Onion spit his mad lyrics again, who could really pass up the opportunity to kick, punch, chop and throw in the odd freestyle move all in the pursuit of coolness?
It's safe to say that GT revolutionised the virtual driving gaming genre, earning your right to get behind some of the sleekest rides in the business. We may have waited what seemed like an eternity for GT5, but we imagine a port of the originial GT should prove a much speedier affair.
5/Tomb Raider (1996)
Way before Angelina Jolie brought the tiny short-wearing, cliff-leaping Lara Croft to life on the big screen, teenagers and the odd adult or two were locked in their rooms with the very first Tomb Raider title. Large environments to explore, a bit of puzzle-solving and a dual gun toting-heroine are all good reasons why Lara should get the Xperia Play treatment.
