Amazon sees Kindle Fire market share dip as Q1 figures fail to hit pre-Christmas highs
Having rapidly risen to power and the moniker of the highest selling Android tablet, new reports have suggested sales of the Amazon Kindle Fire a slumped since the turn of the year.
According to new figures compiled by the International Data Corporation, Amazon has seen its share of the global tablet screen drop from 16 per cent at the close of 2011 to just 4 per cent at the end of Q1 2012.
With low demand seeing Amazon reduce its stock figures, the IDC study has shown the online retailer to have reduced shipment figures for the 7-inch device from 4.8 million units during the holiday period to less than 750,000 in the first quarter of 2012, a period which saw Apple launch its eagerly awaited new iPad 3.

Exclusive to the US and sporting a 7-inch LCD touchscreen display with a Gorilla Glass coating and a 1024 x 600p resolution the Amazon Kindle Fire lines up at a similar size to the Samsung Galaxy Tab and BlackBerry PlayBook with a dual-core processor landing alongside 8GB of internal storage enhanced by access to the Amazon cloud service.
The tablet’s battery life is touted at 8 hours of reading or 7.5-hours of continued video playbook with a sleek design seeing the device measure up at just 11.4mm thick. Unlike the iPad the Kindle Fire does not feature any inbuilt cameras.
